The treatment experience

We will prep your skin with a thorough cleanse and then apply ultrasound gel to the area to lubricate the skin, so the HIFU device moves easily. Ultrasound energy is delivered to the target area in short pulses for roughly 60 to 90 minutes. After treatment, your skin is cleansed, and a moisturiser and SPF are applied.

Commonly asked questions

 

  • No special preparation is needed before having this treatment. All makeup and skin care products will be removed from the target area before treatment.

  • Continue with your prescribed home care. 

    It is completely normal for the treated area to feel a bit tender, slightly swollen and flushed or hot to touch.  

    To help ease these minor side effects, treat the area in the following way:

    • Avoid using tweezers, waxes and depilatory creams until at least three days after the treatment.

    • Avoid hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms and heavy exercise for a couple of days.

    • Apply an SPF30+ sunblock on the day of the treatment and subsequent days to avoid irritation from direct exposure to sunlight.

  • Ultrasound is used to create heat at a deep level in the skin triggering a wound healing response.

    The body then produces collagen to aid in cell regrowth. Collagen is a substance in the skin that gives it structure and elasticity. The regeneration process takes place progressively and gradually, from the deeper tissue towards the skin surface, working naturally to uplift and rejuvenate the skin.

  • You will usually see results 2-4 weeks after a single treatment. However, to get long-lasting results, you may need two HIFU treatments in the first year spaced six months apart, depending on the current condition of your skin. You can then get one treatment a year to maintain the results.

  • While the ultrasound energy is being applied, you may experience slight discomfort, heat and tingling. Some people describe it as tiny electric pulses or a light prickly sensation. If you are worried about pain, your skin specialist may suggest taking Panadol or codeine prior to treatment.

    Immediately after the treatment, you may experience mild redness or swelling, which will gradually subside over the next few hours.

  • There is no downtime associated with the treatments. You can resume all normal activities immediately after treatment.

  • This treatment is unsuitable if you have had filler or a thread lift in the last six months on the treatment areas.
